Today i started preparing the neck for the Octave Mandolin. I glued two pieces of mahogany in the back for making the neck heel, and i cut an angle at the top for making a simple angled headstock. Next step is slotting the truss rod and shaping the neck. Here are some pics:

Building an Octave Mandolim #1
Had some tone-woods inside a box for quite a while now and i finally decided to make something with it. Lately i have been interested in the GDAE tuning for playing Irish tunes, so i started fooling around with a mandolin, but being a guitar player i found the sound of the mandolin too high in treble and the neck is also very small to me, so i decided to build an Arched Top Octave Mando. I used Spruce for the top and Mahogany for back, sides and neck. Here are some pics of it so far:
